It is not uncommon to see a figure rollerblading around St Kilda’s Esplanade. But, until now, to participate you had to go out and buy a pair yourself, or somehow inherit a pair of classic retro roller skates.
Everything has changed now with the opening of a classic retro caravan that rents new sets of wheels on the foreshore of St Kilda.
Rolla Bae’s ethic is “to defend the time spent in search of pleasure and the modern revival of roller skating, it is about disconnecting, letting go and creating carefree pleasure”. Renting a pair of Impala roller skates or blades costs $ 25 for an hour, $ 60 for a half-day, or $ 95 if you want to ride all day. You can choose between leopard, aqua, hologram, or pink wheels when you pick them up.
The Rolla Bae team aren’t here to send you aimlessly either, they can point you to some great routes to take including St Kilda icons such as The Espy, Luna Park and the amazing pastry shops in the area. .
If you are a beginner, don’t worry, Rolla Bae also has tips and tricks for you to skate like the pros. They regularly organize skate sessions, as well as dance and skate workshops.
