ISH Dance Collective presents ELEMENTS OF FREESTYLE at the Peacock Theater in a London premiere
Sadler’s Wells’ Peacock Theater will present ISH Dance Collective’s Elements of Freestyle, an adrenaline-fueled explosion of urban extreme sports, dance, music and drama, from Wednesday April 13 to Saturday April 23 in a premiere in London.
In a fusion of breakdancing, rollerblading, skateboarding, freestyle basketball, BMX and freerunning, audiences experience the art behind the trick. Elements of Freestyle features a cast of exceptional dancers and athletes who are staged performing their art by show creator and director Marco Gerris (So You Think You Can Dance) and who take the audience on a journey of exceptional competence.
Director Marco Gerris said: “Elements of Freestyle is perhaps the achievement of which I am most proud. Creating this explosive world on stage in which these wildly different street disciplines come together to be performed at the highest level has been a long time a dream of mine.Elements of Freestyle not only shows the high level individual skills, but also the chemistry between the performers, the friendship, the raw energy, the jams and the battles.It’s not only the adrenaline, Elements of Freestyle also shows the poetic side of extreme sports: as a former freestyle inline skater, I know the challenges you face in order to land a difficult trick. highest level is the art of movement in an exciting new contemporary form.
After more than 20 years of performing all over the world, this is my first time performing in London’s West End! I feel very honored and privileged, especially after these two difficult years! We are delighted to discover the London scene and meet the public. London calling!”
The show features a cast of 10, including award-winning b-boy and breakdancer Arnold Put; world freestyle champion Bart Van Der Linden, also known as “The Flying Dutchman”; 10 time Dutch BMX champion Dez Maarzen and breakdancer Dietrich Pott, or bboy Dietje as he is also known. They join skater Jelle Briggeman; freerunner Luís Alkmim; freestyle basketball juggler Michael Van Beek whose credits include Cirque de Soleil; skater Pim Wouters; breakdancer Thomas Krikken and Sven Boekhorst, skater and winner of the highly acclaimed ‘Triple Crown’ – winning the X-Games, Gravity Games and World Championships.
The company is joined on stage by live musicians, Annie Tangberg on cello and Vera van der Bie on violin.
