Polo is one of the most famous and colorful sports in this region. One of the best polo grounds in the world is found in Gilgit where the Shandur Polo Festival has been held since 1936. People from all over the world come to watch the matches. The version of polo played here is considered the purest of all – called freestyle polo.

During the winter season, this area is ideal for skating events. During the winter season, skating enthusiasts came here from all over Pakistan. Ice hockey events can also be held in this region, which would attract a number of ice hockey playing countries.
