Idaho Falls Figure Skating Club visited by an Olympic medalist
IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KIFI) — Spins, jumps and tricks weren’t the only things on the minds of members of the Idaho Falls Figure Skating Club on Saturday. They had the opportunity of a lifetime to host bronze medalist Gracie Gold and accomplished figure skater Geoffry Varner.
Gold and Varner hosted a bootcamp with club members. There were opportunities for private lessons and opportunities to get autographs and photos with the guest instructors.
Club President Elena Manwaring says the camp has inspired the club’s skaters to a whole new level.
“When you have someone like Gracie Gold or any other really good skater or coach that can come in, that really inspires skaters and they start dreaming big and some of them really go on and do big things.” , Manwaring said.
Gold says that since the Olympics she has wanted to help others learn to improve their skating skills.
“I really think everyone should have access to the best coaches and the best skating environments possible,” Gold said.
Gold says being able to help others has given her a chance to reach out to those trying to play the sport she loves.
“Just reaching out to skaters across the country has been a wonderful and really, really rewarding experience,” Gold said.
After the camp, Gold and Varner held a Q&A with the skaters and offered skater-to-skater advice.
