59th national roller skating championship: Delhi in the lead for the second consecutive time; Haryana wins her first medal

Delhi tops 59th National Roller Skating Championship, Haryana wins first medal

During India’s 75th year of independence, the 59th National Roller Skating Championship 2021 was held in Delhi and Mohali from December 11-22. This event is hosted by RSFI, skateboarding as an event debuted at the Tokyo Olympics in 2020 and the Asian Games in Jakarta in 2018 for the first time.

Despite a cold snap that hit the Punjab, the men’s and women’s skateboarding event was successful. It was a very competitive event in 2021, with skateboarders from all over India. The main participants came from Delhi, Haryana, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madya Pradesh, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh.

At the 59th National Roller Skating Championship 2021, Delhi topped the skateboard event medal standings by winning 7 of 24 medals across all age categories:

Shivam Balhara 14 to 17 OR, Aryan Rawat 11 to 14 OR, Aadya Aditi 14 to 17 OR, Kimaya Singh 9 to 11 OR, Ratish Srivastav 9 to 11 SILVER, Shivam Tiwari Over 17 BRONZE, Siddharth Balhara 9 to 11 years old BRONZE, Arjun Walia (Haryana) 11 to 14 years old SILVER.

Special mention required for Aryan Rawat and Shivam Balhara who completed their golden hat trick. The two skaters also won gold medals in their respective categories in the 2019 and 2020 editions.

The Delhi team won the medal count for the second year in a row. Last year Delhi also won 7 medals and was the best team in the competition. Delhi skateboard team mentor Surjeet Kumar said the team will continue to work hard and look forward to maintaining consistency in the upcoming championships. The team consisted of 10 male participants and nine female participants who were trained at Delhi Skateboard Academy. Surjeet Kumar specially bred Haryana skateboarders Arjun Walia for winning the very first Haryana State skateboarding medal. After Delhi, Kerala was the best performing state with five medals. Out of 24 medals, 12 were won by Delhi and Kerala. The successful organization of the 12 day event is a major boost for Roller Sports in India.

The Haryana team won their very first skateboard medal, Arjun Walia won the silver medal in the 11 – 14 boys category.
